Gary Reed (Senior Clerk)
Responsible for the day-to-day running of chambers, Gary has been clerking for 40 years and was formerly clerk to the great Edmund Lawson QC. He brings with him a highly professional approach and service to our professional clients. He is used to dealing with a wide range of clientele and has been praised for his excellent judgement in providing the right barrister for a given case. Gary has a comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of every member of chambers and their practice which, when coupled with his ‘can do’ approach, makes for a friendly, professional, and efficient service. He is widely praised for his enthusiasm and his friendly and approachable nature.
Mark Venables (Senior Family Clerk)
Mark has over 25 years' clerking experience, most of which has been in Family law. He was for 12 years Clerk to the former Attorney General, Baroness Scotland.
Mark is responsible for overseeing the family clerking and deals with professional matters relating to client care, fee negotiation, practice development and some marketing.
Mark is a keen squash player and enjoys following most sports, but especially the fortunes of Ipswich Town FC! He also enjoys reading and is interested in early aviation history.
Mike Wright (1st Junior Civil & Commercial Clerk)
Mike commenced his clerking career in 2009 at a Leading Set of Commercial Chambers. He joined 33 Bedford Row in 2016 and he is responsible for the management and development of the 33 Bedford Row Civil and Commercial team, Mike’s duties include diary management, fee negotiation, fixing of cases and most importantly, managing and maintaining an excellent relationship with all that come in contact with him.
Mike is a member of the Institute of Barristers’ Clerks and he successfully completed the IBC’s Advanced award in Chambers administration BTEC Course in 2013.
Robert Andrews (Family Fees Clerk)
Rob began clerking in 2001 with Renaissance Chambers and held the 1st Junior position before becoming a Fees clerk in 2010. Rob spent 18 months working with Advanced Computer Software, providers of the computer system MLC, so has a very good understanding of system set up and requirements for chambers.
Rob joined 33 Bedford Row in September 2016 as Fees clerk, predominantly dealing with the Family Team. Any fee queries on Family cases can be directed to him.
In his spare time Rob enjoys coaching his sons football team, spending time with his family and supporting Millwall FC.
Jamie Smurthwaite (Clerk)
Jamie joined chambers in 2012. He is growing from strength to strength and is a confident and reliable junior clerk.
Jamie is a keen sports fan and supports Chelsea FC. He enjoys socialising with his friends at the weekend.
Bill Ince (Clerk)
Bill commenced clerking in 2013 and has experience in all areas of law. He is considered to be very approachable and willing to assist with any enquiry you may have.
Bill's interests include football, golf and socialising.
Charlotte Cracknell (Clerk)
Charlotte started clerking in July 2015.
She enjoys travelling and seeing friends on the weekend.

Haeminder is chambers' accountant.
