Tinessa Kaur Secures Suspended Sentence for Young Defendant in Class A Drug Supply Case

Tinessa Kaur was instructed by Junaid Khan of Crownbridge Law to represent a young defendant charged with two counts of Possession with Intent to Supply Class A drugs and Acquiring Criminal Property.

The case carried a real risk of 2–7 years’ immediate custody, with the Crown initially placing the defendant between Significant and Lesser Role due to the quantity and street value of the drugs, alongside his refusal to provide his mobile PIN.

Tinessa’s preparation was thorough, meticulous and strategic. She produced a clear, structured sentencing note and delivered focused oral mitigation, drawing the Court’s attention to the defendant’s age (18 at the time of the offence), immaturity, lack of previous convictions, and the vulnerabilities that made him susceptible to exploitation.

In his sentencing remarks, the Judge accepted that although the case would ordinarily fall between Significant and Lesser Role, he was persuaded by the Defence submissions that the defendant’s youth, good character, and vulnerabilities reduced his culpability to Lesser Role.

The Court imposed an 18‑month Suspended Sentence, giving this young client the opportunity to rehabilitate in the community rather than face immediate imprisonment.

A strong, collaborative result achieved through the combined efforts of Junaid Khan and Tinessa Kaur, ensuring their client received the best outcome possible.
