Dr Chelvan Elected Inaugural Chair of ABTL Executive – ABTL Launch 31 January

TONIGHT (31 January 2022, 6:30pm) sees the Launch of the Association of British Tamil Lawyers (‘ABTL’).  33 Bedford Row’s Dr S Chelvan, Head of Immigration and Public Law, has been Elected ABTL’s Inaugural Chair of the Executive Committee for 2022, and additionally serves as a Senior Member of the ABTL Advisory Committee.

Referring to ABTL’s Vision, Arunn Thiruchelvam, part of ABTL’s Operational Committee makes clear “ABTL was formed my junior lawyers from the Tamil community passionate about promoting diversity in the legal sector and raising the profile of the Tamil legal community in the UK and beyond.”

Dr Chelvan, speaking at tonight’s launch will emphasise the role of senior Tamil lawyers, “This is the time for a positive push to ensure greater representation in the legal professions. ABTL has been founded to create a space for professional guidance and mentorship, empowerment and support, and a positive vision for this generation, and future generations of British Tamil Lawyers.”
