Ishrat is dual-qualified as both a barrister in England and Wales and an advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. She accepts work in both jurisdictions. She provides expert advice on the enforcement of British orders in overseas jurisdictions and how mirror orders may be obtained, as well as providing expert evidence on the law in Bangladesh.
Ishrat offers advice and advocacy across the full spectrum of immigration works and attend hearings from the Firt-tier Tribunals to the Court of Appeal. She prepares grounds for judicial review, attend permission hearing, injunction including out of hour hearing. Ishrat deals with Part 7 and interim support applicaitons under the Housing Act, small claims personal injury cases and possession hearing.
Ishrat has developed a specialty in the incorporation of international charities, particularly charities operating in Bangladesh, which may be funded from abroad. Ishrat has advised the charity sector on the registration of the women’s dyeing workers as a charity in Bangladesh and has provided legal advice for the US charity Care involved in various charitable projects in Bangladesh.
Prior to returning to the UK to practise, Ishrat was a partner in a top-rated Legal 500 firm specialising in infrastructure and construction projects in Bangladesh. She is uniquely placed to advise international companies seeking to invest in large-scale infrastructure projects in Bangladesh where her knowledge of the framework and functioning of Bangladeshi institutions and government regulation is exceptional. She has advised on the planning, drafting, tendering and concluding of PSC, EPC and IA contracts, and she has worked on FIDIC and other model contracts on large-scale property projects for the exploration and development of mines, power plants and telecom network buildings. She has also negotiated and structured international dispute settlements, and worked on a few large international arbitrations before the ICC, ICSID and SIAC.
Ishrat undertakes work involving delay analysis, costs, defects, termination and all other aspects of contract in the areas of property, building and civil engineering. She regularly receives instructions from sub-contractors in the construction industry, particularly in cases where projects are under consideration in Bangladesh.
In recognition of her outstanding contribution in 2007 to the field of human rights in relation to Bangladeshi tribal community land settlement issues, Ishrat was invited by the US government to tour USA as a state guest.
Ishrat regularly appears before First-tier and Upper Tribunals and First Track Process on immigration matters. Her rate of success in judicial review on immigration matters is noteworthy.
Ishrat represents clients in all aspects of immigration law, including high-value migrants, investors, entrepreneurs, work permits, marriage, civil partnership, asylum, human rights and EEA applications, applications for long residence, bail applications, variation of bail conditions, deportation and removal. She assists clients with all initial immigration applications to Home Office, including students' and visitors' visa applications.
