Stephen is a practitioner in criminal and regulatory law, who both prosecutes and defends.
He has extensive experience dealing with vulnerable witnesses and is a fierce and skilful advocate who offers his clients an attentive ear and a clear view of the matters at hand.
Stephen frequently advises local authorities and regulators in respect of licensing and regulatory prosecutions, providing meticulous, comprehensive, and robust written advice.
Stephen also has experience in pre-charge investigations and in the preparation of case strategy – experience gained through secondments at the Serious Fraud Office and a boutique solicitors’ firm.
Before being called to the Bar Stephen volunteered for the Prisoners’ Advice Service, advising inmates on legal issues. He also served as a panel member for Islington's Youth Offending Team, drafting the terms of offenders’ Referral Orders. These experiences not only provided him with a detailed knowledge of sentencing law, but also gave him an insight into the practical and legal issues faced by offenders on a daily basis.
In 2013 Stephen was employed as a paralegal at Birnberg Peirce and Partners. He was part of a team that worked exclusively on the Hillsborough Inquests, representing over 70 of the victims' families.
