Profile

Pro­fes­sor Ian Den­nis is Pro­fes­sor of Law and Direc­tor of the Cen­tre for Crim­i­nal Law at Uni­ver­sity Col­lege Lon­don (UCL), and Vis­it­ing Pro­fes­sor at the Uni­ver­sity of Sydney.

He was Called to the Bar (Gray’s Inn) in 1971 and under­took pupil­lage before tak­ing up a Lec­ture­ship at UCL in 1973. He teaches and researches in crim­i­nal law and crim­i­nal evi­dence and pro­ce­dure. He is the author of ‘The Law of Evi­dence’ (4th ed, Lon­don, Sweet & Maxwell, 2010) and numer­ous essays and jour­nal arti­cles. He was Edi­tor of the Crim­i­nal Law Review from 1999 to 2011, and has acted as a Con­sul­tant to the Law Com­mis­sion on the cod­i­fi­ca­tion of crim­i­nal law in Eng­land and Wales and the reform of the law of homicide.

As a lead­ing aca­d­e­mic in this field, 33 Bedford Row is priv­i­leged that Pro­fes­sor Den­nis is part of us as a door ten­ant. He is often a keynote speaker at Cham­bers CPD accred­ited sem­i­nars, pro­vid­ing updates and debate on the lat­est devel­op­ments in crim­i­nal law and evidence.
