Dr Chelvan, Head of Immigration and Public Law, was interviewed last night (29 March) on the UK government’s proposals to house asylum seekers in former military bases and vessels by Kasia Madera of BBC News’ The Context with Christian Fraser.

Dr Chelvan provided his legal and academic views on the context in light of the government’s Illegal Migration Bill, legislation Dr Chelvan views to be contrary to both domestic (Human Rights Act 1998), international law (ECHR), and British values and protections. The solution to the  cost in housing asylum seekers would be to address the 166,000 protection claims currently undecided.

Dr Chelvan was joined by panellists Jessica Elgot (Deputy political editor of the Guardian), and Bryan Lanza (former Communications Director of the Trump Transition Team).
