Hammad Baig hosted Professor Njaramba Gichuki of Wanyaga and Njaramba Advocates, Nairobi during the International Trademark Association Annual Meeting 2026, which took place in London from 3 - 7 May.
Professor Njaramba, a leading Kenyan practitioner and academic in commercial and financial law, travelled to London to attend the INTA conference and to strengthen links between Kenyan and UK legal communities.
The two met for lunch at Lincoln's Inn on 8 May 2026, where discussions ranged across financial institutions law, banking regulation, insolvency practice, and the interaction between these fields in cross-border commercial disputes.
Professor Njaramba Gichuki is a senior academic at the University of Nairobi's School of Law, where he teaches and researches in commercial law, banking and financial services regulation, and insolvency. He is widely published in these areas and is a recognised voice on the legal framework governing financial institutions in Kenya and the wider East African region.
In addition to the INTA programme and the lunch at Lincoln's Inn, Professor Njaramba visited Wildy & Sons, the historic legal bookshop on Lincoln's Inn Archway, and attended the exhibition of court dress at the Royal Courts of Justice.
The visit provided an opportunity to discuss:
- the regulation of financial institutions in Kenya and the UK;
- current developments in insolvency law and practice;
- the role of legal education in shaping commercial law reform;
- cross-border enforcement and recognition of insolvency proceedings; and
- opportunities for collaboration between Kenyan and UK practitioners.
The International Trademark Association's 2026 Annual Meeting brought together intellectual property professionals from around the world. London served as the host city, with events and sessions held across the capital during the first week of May.
