Gayle is a specialist family children’s law barrister with over 25 years of experience in high-stakes public and private law litigation. Recognised for her precise technical skill, persistence and empathetic approach, she is roundly acknowledged as an authority in child protection. She is routinely instructed in complex cases, fact-finding hearings involving non-accidental injuries, physical abuse, sexual abuse, trafficking, drug and alcohol, neglect, domestic abuse, cohesive control as well as multi-jurisdictional cases.
Gayle is a leading junior, and is routinely instructed as junior counsel alongside the country’s most prominent KCs. She has developed a significant multi-cultural client base including from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Poland, Romania, Ireland, Nigeria, Sri Lanka to name a few.
Gayle represents a diverse range of clients, including local authorities, parents, and children (both via court-appointed guardians and those with independent legal capacity). Having previously spent a year working in-house for a local authority, she brings a distinct tactical advantage to her practice; she thoroughly understands the inner workings and needs of local authorities, while possessing the unique insight required to effectively challenge them when representing parents and children.

Vulnerable Clients & Court of Protection
Gayle is highly regarded for her ability to establish immediate rapport and trust with vulnerable individuals. She is deeply committed to protecting the rights of victims, survivors, the elderly, and clients facing:

- Trauma from severe abuse and exploitation.

Public Law Appointments & Inquiries
Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA): Instructed in a senior role on behalf of two named participants - the British Council and the London Borough of Lambeth to investigate systemic institutional failings and child welfare.
Notable Cases:
Re SX (A Child) [2020] EWHC 1086 (Fam); [2020] All ER (D) 36 (May), Gayle appeared before Lieven J for a local authority led by Nick Goodwin KC, on an application for a care order. Medical evidence, related to the death of a 2-month-old baby who suffered 65 fractures and head injuries, was taken remotely, but an issue arose as to whether to proceed to hear parental and lay witness evidence remotely.
Re P –2024 - Leading junior for a local authority in respect of non-accidental injuries to a baby (fractures).
Re M 2024 - 2026 – Represented a mother via the Official Solicitor in an international case involving possible placement of a child in Iran or Turkey successfully arguing against adoption (against the odds) and achieving placement with a family member in Turkey. Publication of judgement is awaited.
Re N 2025 – Represented a Local Authority in respect of a fact-finding involving serious and significant emotional and physical abuse of a child throughout her childhood, all findings were made.
Re A & A 2025 – 2026 – led by Deborah Bryan representing a mother in respect of a fact finding involving non – accidental injury [fractures] and neglect.
Re B & S 2026 – Fact-finding in respecting a mother in respect of allegations of physical abuse and domestic abuse. This case required the cross examination of the child for which Gayle was complimented by Counsel in the case in respect of ‘that was a master class in cross-examination’ of a vulnerable witness.
Re P 2026 - led by Nick Goodwin KC in a fact finding involving a 4-month-old baby who sustained over 40 fractures. The issue in the case was whether the injuries were caused as a result of prematurity, medical complications, inadvertently.
Re H & N 2026 – led by Gul Nawaz Hussain KC in a 14-day fact finding in respect of allegations of physical abuse of a 12-year-old child. Successfully defended finding in respect of the most serious allegations and assertions by the local authority that the family’s culture made it more likely that the allegations were true which was rejected by the court.
Re E 2026 – led by Nick Goodwin KC in proceedings in respect of the death of a baby included application for a ‘declaration of lawfulness’ to end life sustaining treatment.
Re B 2026 – led by Jonathan Sampson KC in respect of a case involving the cause of death to a child.
Re X 2026 – led by Gul Nawaz Hussain KC for a parent involving religions indoctrination and sexual abuse.

Gayle is regularly invited to speak at legal conferences and training events. She is known for her contribution to the teaching of ‘Pupil Barristers’ and ‘New Practitioners’ on behalf of Lincoln's Inn, and regularly participates in seminars on a range of legal issues.
