Introduction

Rayan completed his pupillage at 33 Bedford Row before accepting an offer of tenancy, commencing on 30 June 2026.

Rayan commenced his pupillage in April 2025. During his first six he accompanied members of the criminal team on cases across the spectrum of chambers’ criminal practice. These included domestic violence, dishonesty and regulatory matters in the Magistrates’ Courts and cases concerning serious sexual, violence and drug-related offences in the Crown Court. He further assisted with case preparation; drafting summary documents, preparing pleadings and researching legal points. 

Prior to commencing pupillage, Rayan was employed by a leading legal aid criminal law firm as a paralegal. He assisted his supervisor, partners and other members of the firm through working on a wide variety of serious criminal matters, ranging from rape and robbery to POCA.

Rayan was also a county court advocate. He conducted advocacy in trials and preliminary hearings related to PI, RTA and Infant Settlement.

Rayan gained an LLB in Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science and completed his BPTC at the University of Law.

Notable Cases

• R v JJ – secured unanimous acquittals during a Crown Court trial concerning one count of attempted robbery and one count of possession of a bladed article. Bad character application successfully resisted and further counts kept from the indictment due to successful legal arguments. The client was later released on time served following sentence for counts he pleaded to before trial.
• R v JN – secured a unanimous acquittal during a Crown Court trial concerning one count of outraging public decency. Cross-examined child witnesses who had claimed to see the outraging act. The client’s good character was preserved.  
• R v GG – secured an acquittal with a half-time submission during a Magistrates Courts trial concerning a charge of battery. The client’s good character was preserved.  
• R v JM – proved exceptional hardship on appeal in the Crown Court.
