Afzal has a mixed practice covering a wide range of practice area with emphasis on fraud, complex litigations in general civil, employment, family and financial relief matters. Afzal represented the Secretary of State for the Home Department at the First-Tier Tribunal (IAC) on a regular basis and acted for high value clients. Afzal is currently appointed as the legal expert to the Bangladesh ICT Ministry Task Force on Corruption White Paper with effect from 3rd May 2025. 

In other areas of work, Afzal has acted in insolvency, landlord tenants (residential and commercial), regulatory disputes.

Afzal is Direct Public Access authorised. 

Afzal have advised EU Observer Mission EU-EOMB 2001 to Bangladesh as specialist on electoral laws, regulatory reforms and Security & Public Order enforcement issues. He was in the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe OSCE/ODIHR expert database of international Political and Electoral Observers, April 2008- December 2022. He was trained by the ICRC and UNHCR on the laws of international and non-international armed conflict.
