Scott Tuppen, acting for I.M., represented the defendant at trial at the Central Criminal Court (The Old Bailey), sitting at Aldersgate House. 

Scott's client was charged with Assaulting an Emergency Worker, as part of a wider criminal case.

The prosecution sought to prove that Scott's client had intentionally assaulted a police officer in the custody suite at a police station causing injury to the officer’s chest. The prosecution argued that the defendant was getting revenge for the officer arresting him for separate matters. 

Through cross-examination of prosecution witnesses, Scott demonstrated that the assault was not shown on CCTV or body-worn video footage, and was not witnessed by the several other officers involved in restraining the defendant or the wider investigation.

In closing, Scott argued that the assault simply did not take place, which is why the complainant was unable to support his complaint with evidence other than his own testimony. Indeed, Scott submitted, the officer could be seen in the video punching the defendant, something admitted by the officer when giving evidence.

The trial, in April 2024, concluded with the jury unanimously acquitting I.M., of the offence.
