Susan Ahern appointed to the British Horse Racing Authority Appeal Board

Susan Ahern of 33 Bedford Row has been appointed to the British Horse Racing Authority Appeal Board. 

Sarah Crowther KC, the Chair of the BHA’s independent Judicial Panel, "said: “I am pleased to announce the appointment of new members to the Judicial Panel of the British Horseracing Authority. There were over 100 applicants which made the recruitment process extremely competitive. Applications were assessed by reference to competencies. These included independence of approach, judicial and decision-making skills, experience and interest and knowledge of horse racing and equine welfare, as well as safeguarding."

The Judicial Panel Bios explain,

"Susan is a barrister, accredited mediator and international arbitrator. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and past Chair of the Sports Law Bar Association of Ireland. As an arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, she was appointed to the CAS Anti-Doping Division for the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020. Susan has over 25 years’ experience in commercial and sports law practice, sports administration and corporate governance as both an executive and as a non-executive director on numerous boards including Sport Ireland, Cricket Ireland, RTÉ and 2023 Cycling World Championships.Until 2016, Susan was the General Counsel of World Rugby. She is currently Independent Deputy Chairman of the Appeals Board of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Authority and is Independent Judicial Chair of World Wheelchair Rugby.
