33 Bedford Row congratulates its former head of chambers, David Barnard, on the publication of his book, An Illustrated History of Gray's Inn.

Co-authored with Timothy Shuttleworth, the book tells the story of the Inn over seven centuries, from 1294 when Sir Reginald de Grey purchased the lease of the old Manor of Purpoole, to the present day. With a foreword by the President of the Supreme Court and Treasurer of Gray's Inn (2017), Baroness Hale, the book aims to entertain as well as inform readers, adopting a popular approach in order to bring the history of Gray's Inn to life, using images to support the narrative.

The book aims to follow in the footsteps of previous great works, including Francis Cowper's 'A Prospect of Gray's Inn' and Master Sir Leonard Stone QC's 'A Welcome to New Members'.

Published in May 2018 by the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn, the book is available to buy at Wildy's Bookshop
