Afzal has a mixed practice with covering a wide range of practice area with emphasis on fraud, complex litigations in general civil, employment, family and financial relief matters. Afzal represented the Secretary of State for the Home Department at the First-Tier Tribunal (IAC) on a regular basis and acted for high value clients. 

Afzal was led by Nigel Lambert KC in a murder trial (R v Abdulehi, 2022) and by Sam Robinson KC in a high value fraud trial involving systematic abuse of immigration work permits. Clients were acquitted in both multi-defendant trials. Afzal’s current instructions involve Royal Mail postal and covid vaccine fraud trials. 

In other areas of work, Afzal has acted in insolvency, landlord tenants (residential and commercial), regulatory disputes.

Afzal is Direct Public Access authorised. 

Afzal have advised EU Observer Mission EU-EOMB 2001 to Bangladesh as specialist on electoral laws, regulatory reforms and Security & Public Order enforcement issues. He was in the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe OSCE/ODIHR expert database of international Political and Electoral Observers, April 2008- December 2022. He was trained by the ICRC and UNHCR on the laws of international and non-international armed conflict.
